Background

The Institute for Security Convergence Research was established to establish an open platform for cooperation with the private sector, military, and the government based on KAIST’s competence in science and technology, so as to prepare Korea for threats to national security and changes in the nature of warfare. The institute seeks to overcome the limitations of defense R&D and utilize KAIST’s advanced science and technology to become a world-class research institute in security technology.

ISCR was established for the following purposes

  • Conducting fundamental/novel technology research based on security technology
  • Fostering of future-oriented security experts
  • Constructing platform for domestic/international exchange and cooperation

  • Supporting(customized) security competence enhancement programs for related institutions

Establishment of platform for domestic/international exchange and cooperation

  • Supporting development of security-related nevel technology and technical consultiong for the Ministry of National Defense
  • Domestic/international research exchange hub
  • Startup networking for patented technology development

Major Projects

Government departments such as the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Ministry of Defense, Agency for Defense Development, society for security and defense, researches, forums and seminars will share and exchange major information, and further expand academic cooperation with foreign universities leading the research.
